As Mycenae came to its golden age it quickly descended. With their famous victory over Troy and their walls surrounding them the Mycenaeans felt unbeatable, unfortunately the walls they had built could not always keep out their surrounding competitors such Pylos and Athens. The multiple kings that ruled over the land could not always get along and nor did their administration, and when you do not have a strong government you will not be able to have a strong empire. With Mycenae already slowly crumbling away there was no chance that they could afford to have their trading routes being cut off. Still with them gone; we can learn a lot from the Mycenaean people.
It is known that the Mycenaeans were people of war, where most men were taught to fight and defend their city. These skills helped when they legendary battle of Troy and the Mycenaeans took no prisoners. With events like Troy showing us that it is wrong to attack other cities/provinces/countries with no legitimate reason, we have learned not to do such things in order to avoid conflict and keep peace between nations. Unfortunately for Mycenae they did not learn this valuable lesson and ever since Troy, they had to face on going battles and wars with surrounding empires such as Sparta and Pylos. This could do nothing but tire and weaken a once thriving city.
Mycenaean political structure at first seems to be one well thought out and planned; much similar to the one of our common days. It involved the top power figure like their king or our prime minister; this was followed by the nobles (administration), and the local administration. However with so many people leading such a small amount of land heads began to butt. With Problems beginning to occur at the top of the Mycenaean empire, it was reflecting on the rest of the city. The situations that occurred in Mycenae are comparable to ones in our common day life such as .George Bush and America, his useless battles against other coutries led to more and creating enemies with foriegn countries. With too many people having so much power ended up having a negative effect on the city as a whole. This should be a situation more carefully looked at in order for it to happen on a larger scale like the political structure of Canada. Now not only was Mycenae facing battles on from the outside but also dealing with fights amongst themselves.
Agriculture and art were one of the main assets to keeping the Mycenaean economy strong. When their trading routes began to be cut off the economy began to plunge, causing suffering amongst the city; it had a smaller effect to one of a recession. This happened because of the heavy dependence of trading. Today we can see events such as this occurring in the world such as America or Canada. In a situation like this one we can learn to not put so much of our goods into trades, instead they should be sold within the country in order to keep money following and keep the economy strong.
In conclusion this once powerful city collapsed because of reasons that could have been avoided. War, power struggles and money all together contributed to fall to such a young civilization. If we listen and learn from the mistakes of ancient empires like the Mycenaeans we might be able to avoid ending up like them. Mycenae was a beautiful city thats life span ended way too soon, if it had lasted a little longer who else knows what else we could possibly learn to not only keep our present and future cities from failure but also to improve them
