indent The Navajo people descended from the Athabaskan people from Northen Canada.The name "Navajo" means large field. The Navajo people refer to themselves as "Diné", meaning "the people" They traveled down and settled in New Mexico, Utah and Arizona around 1000 AD. They learned many of their skills in weaving and agericulture from other native tribes of the area, such as the Pueblo people and the Apache. The first European contact was in 1540, when Spanish explorers traveled to New Mexico. Since then the Navajo have had conflicts and successful trading with the Europeans. Currently there are approximately 300,000 Navajo people living on the Navajo Nation Reservation in Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.It is the largest Native reservation in North America. The longitude/latitude for the Navajo Nation Reservation is Latitude: 37-05'00'' N and Longitude: 110-05'02'' W
